Biography:

Arun is currently a student in the faculty of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He is pursuing an MSc in Health Administration focusing on eHealth Innovation.

Arun completed a medical degree at McGill University in Montreal in 1998.  After which he then completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Toronto.  Upon completing his training he parlayed his research interests in Health and Information Technology into work as a consultant in the area of Electronic Medical Records and Hospital Information Systems.  Arun returned to medical practice in 2002 focusing on pain management and is also a part of the teaching staff in the Peter’s Boyd Academy with the faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He continued his Health and IT interest by looking into the application of patient modeling to design IT applications for patient education.  This research interest has resulted in the development of a patient education application for hepatic transplant patients that is being tested at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and another application is in development for pediatric lung transplant patients at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

His current research interests revolve around the management of chronic pain and how it can be improved through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).  For his thesis Arun is looking at how the concept of optimizing a stakeholder’s role in pain management can be supported by an ICT based application. The development of such an application is part of the proposed thesis as well.
