Studies in adverse events have identified employing human factors principles as a key tactic in making health care safer. The Human Factors 101 course was developed by the Healthcare Human Factors Group as part of the team’s ongoing effort towards human factors education.
The four-hour interactive course aims to address the general unfamiliarity with human factors engineering in order to educate others on how it can reduce adverse events in healthcare institutions.
The course covers the following:
• The importance and value of human factors concepts in a clinical context
• User-centered design and evaluation
• Crew resource management
• Mental workload and human error
Course Fee: $100/person, which is waived for UHN employees
